Kieran Daly is one of the two incumbent Access Officers
The job of the Access Officers is to ensure that Cambridge and Pembroke are accessible to prospective students from all backgrounds. You can contact them here.
Hey! I’m Kieran, one of two Pembroke Access Officers in the JPC. My main role is to ensure that Cambridge is accessible to all students, especially those from non-traditional backgrounds. Cambridge can seem a very daunting place to study for many prospective students (it certainly was for myself!), and I want to make sure that I encourage as many people to apply to Cambridge as possible, so that you don’t miss out on applying and having a wonderful experience.
We promote the college through running Access Days, in which potential applicants from our under-represented link areas spend a day in college, and through shadowing schemes, in which sixth-form students have the opportunity to come and live like a Cambridge student for a few days.
We have just written a new Alternative Prospectus, which is a guide to life at Cambridge written by students, and can be found on this website – it’s definitely worth a read and offers a slightly different viewpoint from the official prospectus. We also run Access Forums bi-termly, in which the student body have an opportunity to voice their views on Access-related issues, which we then take forward to our fortnightly CUSU meetings.
My aims this year are to run a BME Access Day alongside our Ethnic Minorities Officer, to create ‘a day in the life of’ vlogs for each subject, and to continue, along with the Access Officers from other colleges, promoting Cambridge and ensuring that Cambridge is a diverse university environment. We’d love you to get involved in everything that we do, so if you would like to help out at Open Days or Access Days, or be a part of the upcoming vlogs, please do get in touch!
For incoming Fresher’s and potential applicants: If you have any concerns/questions about coming to Cambridge, no matter how big or small you think they may be, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. My email is email@example.com
